The Lloydminster Bobcats have announced that Head Coach and General Manager Gord Thibodeau is leaving his current position to pursue an opportunity to take over the role of Vice President of Hockey Operations, Head Coach, and General Manager with the Whitecourt Wolverines.
Thibodeau makes the move citing a number of factors, not the least of which is the recent health issues faced by himself and his wife Lori. Over two decades into a highly successful coaching career in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, Gord has chosen to exercise an opt-out clause at the end of the second year on his contract with the Bobcats to pursue an opportunity that fits his family’s current needs.
Although it is not the news that the team was wanting to share, we understand his position and appreciate all that Gord has done for the organization over the past two years and wish him success in Whitecourt.
There will be no coaching vacancy as Paradise Hill’s Travis Clayton will be assuming the role of Head Coach and General Manager of the Jr. A Bobcats, while the Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager role will be filled in the near future.
A media availability with Gord, Travis, and President Bryan Morrison will be held at the Bobcats office (4419 52nd Avenue) between 1:00 and 2:00PM this afternoon.
