Bobcats Extend General Manager to 2028-29

Lloydminster Bobcats Extend General Manager Nigel Dube Through 2028–29 Season

Lloydminster, AB – The Lloydminster Bobcats are proud to announce a contract extension for General Manager Nigel Dube through the 2028–29 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.

Since taking over hockey operations in November 2018, Dube has helped guide the organization through one of the most transformative eras in franchise history, rebuilding the Bobcats program from the ground up both on and off the ice.

Under Dube’s leadership, the Bobcats have re-established themselves as one of the AJHL’s most competitive and respected organizations. What began as a complete rebuild has evolved into a program built on culture, accountability, player development, and community connection.

“Nigel has been instrumental in every aspect of our organization’s growth,” said team President Brent Mohrbutter.  “From rebuilding the roster and culture, to navigating the uncertainty of a global pandemic, adapting to major changes across the hockey landscape, and helping lead our transition into a brand-new arena, Nigel’s commitment to this organization has never wavered. His passion for the Bobcats and for Lloydminster is evident every single day. Nigel has never shied away from the expectations that come with leading this organization, which can be challenging at times, and he fully understands the shortfalls of the last couple of playoffs.”

The extension comes after several seasons in which the Bobcats have consistently competed near the top of the AJHL standings while continuing to develop players for higher levels of hockey.

Dube’s tenure has also included navigating unprecedented challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, evolving junior hockey pathways, and the continued growth of the organization’s business and community presence. Throughout it all, the Bobcats have remained competitive while continuing to strengthen their identity across the Border City.

Beyond hockey operations, Dube has played a significant role in the organization’s overall business growth, helping strengthen corporate partnerships, expand community relationships, and oversee key operational areas, including the Bobcats’ food and beverage team. He has also built strong relationships throughout minor and elite hockey, focusing on player skill development, mentorship, and creating pathways for young athletes within the region.

“This organization means a great deal to me,” said Dube. “When I first arrived in Lloydminster, the vision was to build something sustainable that our players, fans, alumni, and community could be proud of. We’ve faced a lot together over the years, but the growth of this program has been incredible to see. From rebuilding the culture, to moving into the Cenovus Energy Hub, to continuing to push to be among the top teams in the league each season, there’s still a lot we want to accomplish. I’m grateful for the trust and support from our board, staff, players, sponsors, community, and one of the most passionate fan basis in junior hockey.”

The Lloydminster Bobcats look forward to continuing that momentum under Dube’s leadership through the 2028–29 season and beyond.
