GAME DAY: Bobcats Look to Halt Losing Skid Against Grizzlys

Looking to put an end to a four game slide, the Lloydminster Bobcats (5-14-1) will take on the Olds Grizzlys (2-19-1) for the first time this season Saturday night at the Civic Centre. Unfortunately for the two teams taking part, the game does feature the two teams currently on the outside looking in at the playoff race, but both could use Saturday’s game as a momentum booster as they each look to climb back into the race in their respective divisions. All of the action can be heard live on Real Country 95.9 beginning at 7:15.

Heading In: Power-Play Goals Lead Cru Past Cats

Special teams were the story Friday night in Sherwood Park, as the Crusaders sent the Lloydminster Bobcats to their fourth straight loss. Now tied for top spot in the Viterra North Division, the Cru used three power-play goals and one short-handed marker to get past the Bobcats 6-2. Tucker Scantlebury and Hunter Lamb each scored their 7th goals of the season in the contest.

Head to Head

Despite having yet to face off this season, the Lloydminster Bobcats and Olds Grizzlys wound up splitting their two game season series last year. Both teams picked up wins in their home barn, which is a trend the Cats will look to continue tonight. The two teams will square off again for the final time of the season February 9th in Olds.

Injury Bug Biting Hard on Bobcats

After second-year defenceman Zach Ziegler left Friday night’s game in Sherwood Park with a lower body injury, the injury began to climb even higher for Lloydminster’s Jr. A club. For the past three weeks, the Bobcats have been without their starting goalie in Curtis Meger. Captain and leading scorer Zach Kaiser left last Sunday’s game against Okotoks with an injury and has yet to return. Highly-regarded rookie defenceman Mason Waite left Wednesday’s game against Bonnyville and did not play Friday night. Centerman Carson Franklin has been out since Saturday’s game in Drumheller, leaving the Bobcats with a very young group trying to pick up the slack. Who knows though, it’s often through injuries when you happen to come across a diamond in the rough.
