The Lloydminster Bobcats have announced that Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Garry VanHereweghe will remain with the team in a player personnel role this season.
After being an integral part of the Bobcats coaching staff and front office for the past three years, VanHereweghe will remain with the team as Director of Player Personnel.
“Spending the last three years with the Lloydminster Jr. A Bobcats in the capacity of Coach and General Manager has been without a doubt the best years of my hockey career. Both the community as well as the Bobcats organization took me in with open arms and provided me with every opportunity to be a small piece of building a great hockey program in an outstanding and supportive community,” said VanHereweghe. “I feel totally privileged having the opportunity to stay on board with the team, the board, and the community of Lloydminster as we continue to build a strong and competitive program in the years to come.”
VanHereweghe has coached hockey at the Junior 'A' and Major Junior level in Western Canada and has a level of knowledge and passion for the game that will continue to be a huge asset for the Bobcats.
“We’re very pleased to keep Garry on board as we continue to grow the Lloydminster Bobcats organization,” said Head Coach and General Manager Gord Thibodeau. “His experience in junior hockey provides a great deal of value to our team.”
VanHereweghe will have an active role in recruiting future players and help them achieve hockey opportunities in the NCAA, CIS and ACAC through academics.
