Grizzlys Claw Past Cats

A second period explosion from the Olds Grizzlys led them to a 5-3 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats Friday night at the Olds Sportsplex.

Playing in their home barn, the Grizzlys controlled most of the play and kept the Bobcats pinned deep in their own zone, however, Lloydminster was still able to jump on the board first.

After an Evan Wood outlet pass found its way deep into the Olds’ zone, Kobe Walker chased the puck down, took a hit and still managed to feed Tucker Scantlebury out-front who beat Andrew Henderson to put the Cats up 1-0.

For the Foxwarren, MB product, it was his 3rd goal since joining the Lloydmisnter Bobcats earlier this season.

From that point on though, it was all Grizzlys.

Olds outshot the Cats 14-5 in the first period, and then broke through in the second.

A bouncing puck around the crease of Cats goalie Nick Sanders wound up in the back of the net to tie the game, and open the flood gates.

The Grizzlys added three more goals before the period expired, taking a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.

Early in the third, Lloydminster came out and showed signs of life as they tried to claw back into the game.

Just 39 seconds into the frame, Walker took a pass from Zach Kaiser and broke in by himself to score his 15th goal of the season.

However, midway through the period, Olds would restore their three goal lead, before Walker netted his second of the game in the final minute to round out the scoring.

In the end, the Grizzlys outshot the Bobcats 38-28.

Lloydminster finished 0 for 6 on the power-play, while the Grizzlys went 2-8.

Next up for the Cats is a trip to Canmore Saturday night to battle the Eagles. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
