Continuing a run of games against North Division rivals to start the season, the Lloydminster Bobcats are stilll seeking their first win of the season after a pair of losses to the Spruce Grove Saints and the Fort McMurray Oil Barons on the weekend.
Friday ngiht, it was former Bobcat Brett Smythe causing havoc against his former team as he netted a hat trick in his first game back at the Centennial Civic Centre since the RBC Cup Championship on May 22nd. Caden Benson and Cody Young rounded out the scoring for the Saints, while Adam Wilson netted his first as a Bobcat in the contest.
On Saturday in Fort McMurray, the Bobcats weren't able to get on the board despite a number of quality chances on Oil Barons netminder Eric Szudor, who kept a blank slate on the night. The Oil Barons netted five goals in the contest, extending their unbeaten streak on home ice to four games to start the year.
Next action for the Bobcats comes on Friday, September 30th at the AJHL Showcase in Camrose in a 4:30PM matinee against the Okotoks Oilers. The Cats round out showcase weekend with an afternoon showdown against the Calgary Mustangs on Saturday, October 1st.
