Back in the win column!
Playing host to the Whitecourt Wolverines on a Wednesday night, the Lloydminster Bobcats put an end to an eight-game slide with a 3-2 victory.
While the win snapped the Cats skid, it also extended the Wolverines losing streak to four straight games.
Despite plenty of close calls early in the game, the Bobcats found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard after one period of play.
With the game scoreless through most of the first the Wolverines got onto the board late in the opening period with a power-play goal. Joshua Corrow let a shot go from the point with just over a minute left in the period that beat Bobcat’s goalie Curtis Meger to give the visitors the advantage.
Still trying to find the back of the net, Lloydminster finally broke through midway through the second period.
Just 16 seconds a part, the Bobcats went from trailing by one goal to up one goal, as Reid Irwin broke in on a break-away and beat Tye Morin five-hole, and then Logan Bromhead deflected home a pass from Breydon Berthold to put the Cats out in front.
Holding their 2-1 lead after two, Ethan Mack added to the Bobcat’s lead in the third.
After being stopped on a break-away Mack followed up the rebound and put the puck over top of Morin to make it 3-1.
With under eight minutes to play in the game, Bjorn Robinson beat Meger on a break-away to pull Whitecourt within one, but that is as close as they would get as the Cats rounded out the victory.
The Wolverines went on to out-shoot Lloydminster 32-29.
The Bobcats finished the game 0 for 3 on the power-play, while Whitecourt went 1 for 5.
Next up for the Bobcats is a weekend trip to Grande Prairie to battle the Storm on Friday and Saturday.
