Looking to secure 6th place in the AJHL’s North Division, the Lloydminster Bobcats (22-32-3) will try to find their way back into the win column this evening when they host the Sherwood Park Crusaders (26-29-2). The Bobcats enter tonight’s game three points up on the Bonnyville Pontiacs for 6th, and need one point so secure that position. This will be the final time during the 2017/18 regular season that the Bobcats and Crusaders will square off. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. at the Centennial Civic Centre. Tonight’s contest can be heard starting at 7:15 with Lloydminster Bobcats Hockey on Real Country 95.9.
Heading In: Bobcats Slide Continues In Home Loss to Storm
The Lloydminster Bobcats were able to outshoot the Grand Prairie Storm 34-20 Sunday afternoon at the Civic Centre, but that did not reflect on the scoreboard in a 5-2 defeat. The loss extending the Bobcats losing streak to five straight games, after starting the month of February 3-1. Zach Kaiser and Evan Wood had the Bobcats two goals, while Bailey Brkin made 15 saves.
Head to Head
In the season series, the Crusaders have had the upper hand. Having played five games, the Bobcats have only been able to take down the Cru once, entering the game with a 1-3-1 record against Sherwood Park. However, the Bobcats one win against the Crusaders in their most recent meeting at the Civic. In front of 1400 students on Hockey Hooky Day, the Cats downed Sherwood Park 4-1.
Wood Buries His First
Playing the 111th game in his AJHL career, Evan Wood netted his first career goal in Sunday’s loss to Grand Prairie. Streaking down the left-hand side, Wood wound up a slap-shot that beat Storm goalie Ethan Slobodzian over his left shoulder. Following the goal, Bobcat’s captain Connor Odelein quickly retrieved the puck for the Edmonton product. Although the goal was as close as the Cats would get in their comeback effort, it was a special moment for Evan Wood, who will now look to continue adding to the tally.
