GAME DAY: Cats Finish Off Home Schedule With Battle Against Saints

The final home game of the 2018/19 Lloydminster Bobcat’s regular season is upon as, as the Bobcats (9-45-2) get set to play host to the third-seed in the Viterra North Division standings, the Spruce Grove Saints (36-16-3) Saturday night at the Centennial Civic Centre. The contest will be the third of four meetings between these two teams this month, and the second of three meetings between them in a seven-day span. All the action can be heard live on Real Country 95.9 beginning at 7:15.

Heading In: Mohrbutter Scores Twice in Loss to Cru

In a game that featured many different headlines heading into the contest, the Sherwood Park Crusaders ultimately took the final headline leaving the Centennial Civic Centre victors over the Lloydminster Bobcat’s Friday night. With the contest featuring the Bobcat’s boasting six local skaters in the line-up, the return of Zach Kaiser and Reid Irwin to Lloydminster since the trade deadline deal that sent them to Sherwood Park, and Lloydminster native Chase Anderson taking on his former team, it wound up the depth of the Cru that propelled them to a 6-2 win.

Head to Head

These two teams are getting to see quite a lot of each other in the month of February. Now meeting for the third time this month and set to square off again Sunday afternoon in Spruce Grove, the Bobcats will be hoping Saturday night is the charm as they look to upend the Saints for the first time this season. The Cats and Saints began their season’s against each other with a home and home series, and then did not meet again until the first of February. In their last meeting, taking place on the holiday Monday, things got a little bit heated. Despite no fights taking place, a total of 67 penalty minutes were handed out, including one game misconduct. Whether that bad blood will boil over on Saturday or Sunday, only time will tell.

Looking for ‘Mohr’

It was quite the night offensively on Friday against Sherwood Park for rookie Bobcat’s forward Matthew Mohrbutter. Having battled the injury bug all season long, the local product found the back of the net three times on Friday, however, only two of the counted as one was waved off due to a penalty behind the play. With one home game left and just four games remaining in the regular season, the Lloydminster product will look to continue the momentum right up until the end of the season.
