Troy Van Tetering Commits to University of Alaska Fairbanks

The Lloydminster Bobcats are very pleased to announce that 1997 born Forward Troy Van Tetering has committed to attend and play for the University Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks for 2016-17. The Nanooks are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division 1 level and play out of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Conference (WCHA).

Van Tetering, 17, is in his rookie season with the Lloydminster Bobcats. He has dressed in 33 games, scoring 6 goals, 15 assists for 21 points, along with 24 penalty minutes. Van Tetering is currently 4th in Bobcats team scoring, and is tied for 5th in the AJHL for points by a rookie, as well as 4th in assists by a rookie. Before joining the Bobcats, the Carstairs, Alberta native played his minor hockey with the Airdre Extreme Bantam AAA program for 2 seasons, before moving up to Midgets, where he then played a season of Minor Midget AAA with the AC Avalanche and then moved up to the Alberta Midget Hockey League with the UFA (Strathmore) AAA Bisons.

“We are very proud of Troy for his commitment. His work ethic is tremendous both on and off the ice, he’s a very talented player, and a very good student. The Fairbanks program is getting not only a great hockey player but a great person as well.” Coach Thibodeau.

“My visit to Fairbanks was an amazing experience, from the city itself, to the school and the facilities, as well as the coaching staff. My parents deserve a great deal of praise. Without their dedication throughout my whole hockey career I wouldn’t have gotten this opportunity. Also the Bobcats coaching staff with Garry and Gord helping and guiding me and my family through the process that was new to us. Also to our team, I could not have gotten recognized without having good teammates to be able to play with.”

The Bobcats Organization would like to congratulate Troy and his family on his commitment to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and wish him all the best in the future.

Troy is the 2nd Bobcat player to commit to play in the NCAA joining Kevin Darrar (Holy Cross).
