The Lloydminster Jr. ‘A’ Bobcats are once again hosting their formal event ‘Evening of Champions’ on Thursday, September 10th, at the Stockade Convention Centre. This year the event will include TSN hockey personalities Bob McKenzie & James Duthie, and the return of comedian Andrew Grose.
With more than 35 years of experience covering hockey, TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie is the definitive authority on breaking news and analysis from every corner of the hockey world. Using his unparalleled contacts, combined with an abundance of hockey knowledge and a genuine love for the game, McKenzie has well earned his reputation as the most informed, most trusted and most connected man in the business. In recognition of his considerable contributions to the game, McKenzie has consistently selected by The Hockey News as one of the game’s 100 most powerful and influential people. McKenzie joined TSN in 1987 and has been a fixture on the network ever since, covering the NHL, IIHF World Junior Championship, NHL Draft, NHL Trade Deadline and six Olympic Winter Games. Prior to joining TSN, McKenzie was the editor-in-chief of The Hockey News for nine years and a hockey columnist for The Toronto Star for six years. McKenzie has also authored two books: Hockey Dad: True Confessions of a (Crazy?) Hockey Parent and Hockey Confidential.
Bob McKenzie on coming to Lloydminster, “My son Mike played four years of junior A hockey so I know how important it is to create a sense of community with your hockey team and to do the fundraising necessary to have a successful year. It’s all the more important and prestigious when you know you’re already going to be hosting an RBC Cup National Championship.”
James Duthie is the host of TSN’s extensive and award-winning hockey coverage, including the NHL on TSN as well as the IIHF WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP. Duthie’s entertaining and sharp-witted style continues to make him a fan favourite across Canada and one of the most followed media personalities on Twitter. In 2014 Duthie shared a Canadian Screen Award for Best Sports Host in a Sports Program or Series with SPORTSCENTRE anchor Rod Smith. Duthie is also a three-time Gemini Award winner, receiving recognition for his work on TSN’s coverage of the 2011 NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft, TRADECENTRE ’09 and his work on Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium’s coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, where he worked as co-host alongside Lisa Laflamme. Duthie also won the Excellence in Sports Broadcasting award from Sports Media Canada for his work as host of TSN’s extensive NHL coverage.
James Duthie on the topic of their presentation, “We’ll tell lots of good stories. I’ll mostly talk about all the times Bob almost got fired.”
Grose has over 20 years of live performances in comedy clubs, theatres and festivals. He has made his mark on national television in Canada with the Comedy Now Uncensored Special on The Comedy Network and countless television appearances from the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, The Halifax Comedy Festival and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. Andrew’s most recent work has him on 630 CHED where he co-hosts “The Tencer and Grose Show” every weekday from 9 until noon. Grose first appeared at last year’s event and was a huge hit with the local audience.
In its eleventh year, ‘Evening of Champions’ is the Bobcats’ largest annual fundraiser. The dinner event signifies the beginning of hockey season in Lloydminster. The evening will also include auctions and raffles for sporting and leisure events across the continent.
